Ek Dardmand Dil Ki Haalat Tumhe Bataen

SANT KIRPAL SINGH JI

Ek dardmand dil ki, haalat tumhe bataen.
Kya cheez hai muhabbat, aao tumhe sunaen.

I tell you the condition of the heart that is in pain.
I tell you what exactly the love is.

Afshae raaze ulfat, tauheene ashiqui hai.
Mit jaye lab pe lekin, kyun naam unka layen.

The revelation of the secret of love is the insult of LOVE
One may perish but not bring His name on his lips. (Not reveal the name of his Beloved)

Mai tujhse puchhta hun, kya cheez hai wafaen.

What does one have to do with the world? What does one have to ask from the world?
I ask YOU; What exactly the loyalty (in love) is?

Bimar ne yeh kahkar, furkat me jaan dedi.

The sick one (in love) died in separation saying,
Who wants to wait more. Who knows whether He will come or not?"

Mujhko jagane wale, ab khud bhi jaagte hain.

He Who used to keep me awake is Himself awake now.
The sighs of the poor heart do not go and have never gone in vain (unanswered).

NOTE : This bhajan has been transliterated and translated by Raaj Kumar Bagga (Pappu). Pappu wrote : «I have translated a bhajan written by Beloved Master Kirpal, which He wrote in the separation of His Master Sawan. This bhajan was often sung by a dear one in Bombay programmes.»
